Ichiro

is a badass mofo. when i listen to ichiro, i feel like i'm falling down a flight of stairs, but as i'm falling, all kinds of vines and flowers reach out from the walls to grab me and ease my descent. exploring the moon with roller blades on, i trip and fall into a purple lake filled with clownfish and typewriters. surfing an avalanche of molasses, i discovered ichiro randomly sometime in the beginning (middle?) of last year, and he has been gracious enough to continously update me with beats he's been working on. he hails from Japan, cuts through jazz like a hot knife through butter, and humbly declined to be interviewed. a mysterious figure, but one of the most exciting artists i have encountered. here are some of the tracks he sent me...

Zachey Force Funk

is funky AS SHIT. found this man's page randomly while browsin kutmah's page... and was SO glad i did. on some super dusty lo-fi freak funk with a definite early 80s sound, these tracks bounce HARD... equally party material, driving music or just coooooooooooooln.

shining all the way out from AZ, Zachey owned a record store in Tucson in the late nineties, but sold it to MURS when he got booked. learning how to DJ under DJ Z-trip and Tricky T from Phoenix, and how to paint with EAZ and SES, Z started making beats with Reason when he got out of prison, soon adding vocals and a microkorg to write funk. He cites Madlib, Morris Day and the Time, Herbie Hancock and Cameo as some of his influences, but also listens to "punk, electro, and all kinds of weird shit".

When I asked him about any possible releases, he gave me this..

"KUTMAH and my boy ISAIAH whos down with MURS are both talkin about gettin my stuff put out on waxx and digitaly sometime next year.......we are secretly bending circuits on gameboys to show all the glitchy LA headz that we dont fuck around,so we started singin punk over them style of beats..........."

WHAT ?

Zachey Force Funk - Love and Cocaine

Zachey Force Funk - Pistol Grip Pump (feat. Defaced Property)

the last one

yup. due to some unforeseen conflicts, this is going to have to be the last Astro Nautico show. I just want to thank everyone who has been following the show over the last few months... I never expected anyone to listen! I really can't tell you how much I appreciate your support. While Astro Nautico has grown out of its radio format, I promise the blog will evolve! Stay TUNED!

p.s. this show was very sloppy haha. lots of fuckups, but played some pretty good music.. including some of Kutmah's dublab mix from last week, new flylo EP stuff, and more. also, skip the first 12 minutes to hear Astro Nautico... I was late :)

p.s.s. like i said on the show, this is CKUT's annual funding drive! donate here!

THANK YOU
