I was friended on myspace by these dudes a while back, and never got around to fully listening to their music. Damn was I sleeping!!! These guys roll deep and make really luscious synthesized beats. Especially cool to see a scene like this poppin' off in the Dominican Republic.
They've got all types of free goodies at their website and recently dropped this tasty little sampling in time for the holiday season. Features beats by Cohoba & n6el.
Hopefully you enjoyed our little christmas treat, but now that y'all stuffed your tummies and kissed under your mistletoe, we gotz another holiday to worry about...
JEW YEARS EVE BABY!!!
and everyone knows while you're waiting for that sparkly ball to drop you gotta be rawkin out to the illest tunes.
So I present to you, in a slight departure from the norm here at Astro Nautico, a couple a fist pumpin, danceflo' grinders, guaranteed to make you sweat. Straight from the boy LBS himself (formally known by such alias as Duster, Hiya Kid, Scarf Face and more). Look out for the kid in '10.
BIG UPS to DJ STEVE for turning me on to this gem. It's been stuck in my head all week and is definitely one of the smoothest jams I've heard in a minute. Those synths in the beginning are killer!
After much deliberation, procrastination, hesitation, frustration and some jubilation, we present you with the long-awaited (short-awaited?) Astro Nautico EP #1 - ATLANTICS. All in-house production, with two tracks each from Obey City, Kuhn and Al Gates (+weed). and the best part is...

ENJOY.

syea syea syea syea so YEAH our good friend bro MARTIN been hanging out in some antenna jungle treetop village and asked us (Obeycity and Paul Jones) - aka SiFunk and Garmunkle - to join him on his New school radio show... and we humbly obliged.
here's his take on how it went down:
Short interview with Sifunk and Garmunkle followed by mixes from the boys. Garmunkle takes you through something like a babysitter’s unreality, a collection of voices, howls, warnings, and backwards gestures, all blowing through an expanse of deep psychedelic, funk and other-otherly grooves. Afterwards, you can come up for air with Sifunk’s mix, which feels like what you might hear wandering along a Miami Beach after a Double Duce concert at Studio 183, the half-heard echos of an after-party somewhere on the strip, a DJ throwing down inside a two-room cabana packed with one-hundred-and-ten sweaty, inebriated creatures. Brighter, up-tempo, sensual, boogie music.
if you haven't already, grab Sifunk and Garmunkle's BLOOPERZ here.

hope y'all had a good one. many thanks to negative pleasure, off the mountain, and glitterguts for the visual inspiration. be sure to keep an eye out for the first Astro Nautico EP to be released within the next couple of weeks, featuring Kuhn, Obeycity, and Al Gates.
wow. thanks to Kuhn for enlightening me last night about this dude. all I know about S. Maharba is that he is both a producer and illustrator, from Ipswich, Suffolk, and that he creates Dirt by the TON. I've heard a lot of beat tapes over the past couple years, and these are hands down two of the best i've encountered yet. Both She and S. Maharba were released in March and October of last year, respectively, but didn't receive the proper attention they deserved, from what I can tell. Heavy drums, thick textures, and beautiful samples. If you haven't already, download both of these free releases... if you're like me it will make your day.
also, grab two of his other releases and connect HERE.
I really slacked with continuing these posts, so I'm making up for it with a double. I presented you with some yacht rock and sophista-funk in the earlier installments of this smooth series, and today I'm hitting you with two really similar lush ballads, full of sweeping synths, twinkling keys, and smooth harmonies. Plug in and drift aaawwwaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
