This is an hour-long all-original beats 'n' bass frenzy to welcome the new year. And, as always, it's a lesson in texture.

The bulk of the material comes from GOK boss InfinitiRock and compadre Cayman. Hear some exciting new collaborations here.

InfinitiRock has a forthcoming EP on Base Trip called Apeirophobia dropping on March 12 and a full-length entitled PrimordialRecollection dropping on Asthsmatic Kitty later this spring. It gets the AN stamp for HUGE record. Both will be available nationwide digitally and physically including vinyl.

I honestly couldn't have landed a more adventurous and expert pack of remixers. Everyone took it in an entirely different direction... The result is an album that's simply traveling... Vocoder silk, Future-boogie synth frenzy, Blunted blunts, Cavernous speed dub, Balls-to-the-wall breakcore, Jungle birds... You name it. Pack a bag. I hope it was worth the wait.

November 25, 2010 (BROOKLYN, NY) - Flagship Brooklyn beat collective Astro Nautico’s latest effort ‘Quiet Nights EP’ is a kaleidoscopic journey from the heart of Brazilian jazz to the outer limits of experimental hip-hop and bass.

Featuring tracks by all three Astro Nautico artists (Kuhn, Obey City, +weed) and guest spots from both sides of the Atlantic (Young Montana?, Termeric, InfinitiRock, Thirsty Jefferson), this compilation album is tied together by the common departing point for each artist’s version: Brazilian jazz classic ‘Corcovado’ as performed by Stan Getz.

Phasing tape hiss, crunchy vinyl pops and thunderous subs interface with classic bossa nova piano vamps, raw saxophone swag and the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Astrud Gilberto. This is as much a tribute to the depth of Brazilian songwriting as it is to modern electronic developments in the wake of dubstep and Dilla. My plan was to use my first post in like 75 years to trumpet my triumphant return to the best blog on the internet, maybe fill you in on my whereabouts, comings, AND goings over the past decade, maybe even offer an "apologetic" non-apology for the way I left after that special night we spent together, but baby, there are more important things to talk about. Kanye West and Pusha T were on Funkmaster Flex's radio show the other day, and as my boys Daryl and John would say, "(that shit) is bigger than both of us."

I don't know if this is old news or what, but DAMN, KANYE WEST CAN FREESTYLE! Yeah he's egocentric, yeah this picture exists, but he's got skillz and I respect anyone that can get Mos Def to rap on a track called "Drunk and Hot Girls." Still, I had no idea he could rap like this, totally showing up Pusha T and driving Funkmaster Flex to make some of the goofiest noises this side of the Police Academy series. Enjoy.
