ASTROCAST5: Blank & Kytt's Semi-Sensual Mix

This week's Astrocast is brought to you by a pair of Matthews from Coventry, England who know how to make beats that bang hard but still feel smooth as a baby's ass.

The Blank & Kytt catalogue includes last year's smash 3010 LP and the recent FastSlowJamz, which is also a full-length. Quality & Quantity.

A bunch of influences get thrown into the B&K blender--- future funk & classic soul, hip-hop & bass music, etc.

This mix, selected by Kytt, highlights the more sensual side of the B&K audioverse. Everything from T-Pain & Young Montana? to Jackson 5 & Kate Bush. Just don't get carried away... this is only 'semi-sensual.'

Blank & Kytt are also on

HOLOGRAMS

DAMN, GIRL. This is a bubble bath intermission for your all-night sex party. Some of the smoothest, pillowy interlude type trax you'll ever hear. Throw it on for just about any after hours session, and light one. Sexy marshmellows squashed between two chocolates and two graham crackers GIMME GIMME SOME MO.

Little is known about dude... except that he's from Long ISLAND (ya) and has been putting out music as 骨架的... and runs one of the illest tumblrs out there @ vaprs.tumblr.com.

ASTROCAST4: Railster's Stupendo Sensation

ASTROCAST4 is a monster from Italia.

The premier Italian ambassador of future beats n' bass, Railster has a well-established history of mixes for major cybernetic bass outlets like Jus Like Music, GCC Magazine, and UrbanSoul.ru.
Also a producer and ace remixer, Railster's philosophy comes through everything he touches.

"It's all about style. It's not always about music theory or audio skills to a make good song. I like when I hear an equilibrium of elements, with simple new ideas, with a new original style. That's what I care about."

*special thanks to Kae "Kaesthetics" for the voice.

ASTROCAST 3: Betsberg Mix by GwS

The third installment of our still newly born AstroCast comes from a man named Geert Wijns, running under the alias GwS. Hailing from Oosterzele, Belgium near the Betsberg woods, G's mixes (Bonzai!s) sound like they are coming straight from the heart of the darkest forest you've never been lost in... and this one is no exception. Having done a killer bonzai for us last August, asking G to partake in this series was a no-brainer.

When I asked Geert to describe himself, he responded with "??".

Please check out some of his other mixes here and fill in the blanks for yourself.

ALSO, be sure to peep this compilation - Sample Based Life vol. 1 - that Forrest Reiff put together, featuring two tracks from Geert Wijns himself! and a bunch of other artists. The album is free, but an $8-$10 donation will get you a physical copy of the tape in cassette format.

ASTROCAST2: GOK Takeover (Presented by InfinitiRock)

Astrocast2: G.O.K. Takeover (Presented By Infinitirock) by Astro Nautico on Mixcloud

Our first guest-contributed Astrocast comes AN favorite InfinitiRock and his burgeoning Guns of Kingston collective.

This is an hour-long all-original beats 'n' bass frenzy to welcome the new year. And, as always, it's a lesson in texture.

The bulk of the material comes from GOK boss InfinitiRock and compadre Cayman. Hear some exciting new collaborations here.

InfinitiRock has a forthcoming EP on Base Trip called Apeirophobia dropping on March 12 and a full-length entitled PrimordialRecollection dropping on Asthsmatic Kitty later this spring. It gets the AN stamp for HUGE record. Both will be available nationwide digitally and physically including vinyl.

"GOK is an island of artists spearheaded by me. We have rappers, rock bands, folk artists, etc. We are aiming to put NY on the map and represent all sorts of unsung heros." -IR

QUIET NIGHTS EP

'Quiet Nights' has been a long, long way coming. Started with a dusty old cassette in my basement in '09 and ended with some phresh new Trans-Atlantic interweb collabroations this year. I honestly couldn't have landed a more adventurous and expert pack of remixers. Everyone took it in an entirely different direction... The result is an album that's simply traveling... Vocoder silk, Future-boogie synth frenzy, Blunted blunts, Cavernous speed dub, Balls-to-the-wall breakcore, Jungle birds... You name it. Pack a bag. I hope it was worth the wait.

Quiet Nights EP Preview (Drops Dec 9 - www.astronautico.com) by Astro Nautico

Yung Gunnaz

Wanted to share some jams from a couple young producers who have been impressing me as of late. maybe you've heard of them...maybe not

first is the boy Cedaa fresh out da cedaa forests of Bellingham, WA (not sure if there are cedar forests there but I like to imagine there are). dudes been bubblin' as of late with some real dope remixes in his unique fusion of juke, bass, crunk & funky music. plus he looks like dan casey, a good friend of the blog.

this remix in particular is drivin me mad (u know i'm crazy for those r&b vox ;) )

Clicks & Whistles - When I Feel (Cedaa Remix)
(via XLR8R)

and a couple from his soundcloud available 4 DL:

Magique (Demo) by Cedaa

Are You That Somebody (Cedaa Remix) by Cedaa

(my personal favorite remix of this track i've heard, keeps the original vibe but addin' that SuuUUuUB)

Next on the list is this dude Jamie from the XX, a band of some young lads and a ladette I kinda meant to pay more attention to but never really got around to it. never expected one of em to have productions chops like this though! he's got a slew of official remixes out & is slated to do this crazy remix/collabroation with none other than the great Gil Scott Heron.

first track that really caught my attention is this bonkers nosaj thing remix:

Nosaj Thing - Fog (Jamie xx Remix)

Here's one off the Gil Scott Heron joint:

kids these days!

The Fibonacci Spiral - filling the void

GET YR HEAD STRAIGHT!!!! YES, I am always a suckerrr for thick ambient music.... but this shit is Completely Wonderful. 16 trax that sound like everything at once, in the best way possible.

thanx to GWS for the lynx.

Quiet Nights Drops Next Week!!

QUIET NIGHTS EP == HERE == Dec. 9

November 25, 2010 (BROOKLYN, NY) - Flagship Brooklyn beat collective Astro Nautico’s latest effort ‘Quiet Nights EP’ is a kaleidoscopic journey from the heart of Brazilian jazz to the outer limits of experimental hip-hop and bass.

Featuring tracks by all three Astro Nautico artists (Kuhn, Obey City, +weed) and guest spots from both sides of the Atlantic (Young Montana?, Termeric, InfinitiRock, Thirsty Jefferson), this compilation album is tied together by the common departing point for each artist’s version: Brazilian jazz classic ‘Corcovado’ as performed by Stan Getz.

Phasing tape hiss, crunchy vinyl pops and thunderous subs interface with classic bossa nova piano vamps, raw saxophone swag and the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Astrud Gilberto. This is as much a tribute to the depth of Brazilian songwriting as it is to modern electronic developments in the wake of dubstep and Dilla. Set to be released free on www.AstroNautico.com on December 9.

Ikonika @ Hyperdub Radio Show

Two lethal studio hours from Hyperdub's Ikonika, a DJ who A) smashes it and B) proves my theory that every woman who makes dance music is way sexier than any girl you've ever dated.
