Borgore-Ice Cream Mixtape or McCronnellman, back with a vengeance

Friends, enemies, loyal Astro-Nauts alike, permit me to say how wonderful it is to return to my blogging game. The wilderness has been my home for the last several months, and fucking skeetass AT&T can't get that 3G in North Woods. WEEEAAAK.

Anyway, I'm back now, and man have I brought some wobble. This mix by Borgore, kind of a thugsteppier, fiercer, less ADD version of Raffertie, brims with all types of witty/bizarre vocal samples and some serious explosions. Watch out now, and cop it here.

14KT - Nowalataz

14KT is one of my favorite hip-hop producers currently. Being from Detroit, he's obviously indebted to the late J Dilla, and so he's put out his own version of "donut-style" beats (and unlike a lot of these types of things circling the internet, its actually really good).

In his words:
“Here it is… a project I unofficially had done since 2006. It started when James Yancey a.k.a. J Dilla passed that February. To cope with the death of my favorite producer, who I liked to call my unofficial “musical mentor,” I started making ‘donuts’ …uncontrollably. I never planned to release any of the material out of respect for Dilla & his craft. I’ve shared some of the music with others, in which they would repeatedly ask me to hear it, so I decided to put a little something together and make it official. JUST FOR YA’LL.

This is a collection of beats created about 3 years ago. Some ‘donuts’ style, some just around that era of 14KT beats. “Now & Laters” were always a favorite candy of mine. I used to go to Mindell’s Pharmacy in Ypsilanti back in the day and buy ALL of them. Sadly, I even stole change from my grandma’s (RIP) purse for them. They are addictive, yet fun to eat… something I found mutual when making music at the time. Ironically, I fell back in love with “Nowalataz” around this era (ask my homey Sarah “Merk Merk,” haha). Enjoy.“

To be honest, it's probably going to be a quiet summer around here.. between trying to find a job, producing, drawing, vacationing, thinking and generally loafing around, i just don't find myself on the internet much these days. BUT - I do plan on creating at least 2 mixes before long, as well as a debut beat tape from Sifunk and Garmunkle. Stay tuned... cookies are in the oven.

RIP

Mos Def Spits In Osaka

I don't wanna necessarily call it a comeback just yet, but I am definitely more optimistic about The Ecstatic than I expected to be. This video brings back some familiar sights/memories of my time in Osaka too.

Nerima Experiment

Ichi(ro) the Killer. my main man from Japan...hooked me up! After some post-office troubles with getting this record from point A (Tokyo) to point B (Montreal), Ichiro's "Nerima Experiment" finally arrived today! Ten beautifully stitched-up, glitched-down, synthed-around stutterjazz beats, with two remixes by mgr and fad art disposition. Love the artwork too.

Buy "Nerima Experiment" here or on iTunes.
Check here for more locations.

only 300 in print!

Check out Ichiro's contribution to this free Sun Ra tribute mix, which also features Powell, Ras G and Samon Kawamura. Also, listen to his Onur Engin "Garden of Buddha" remix here and buy it here.

Big Gigantic: Fire It Up

You can tell McCronnellman has been sleeping when its taken me this long to put up the FREE, debut LP from Dom Lalli, AKA Big Gigantic, that upper echelon purveyor of "that COLORADO sound." Though the live drums that so often define "that...sound" are absent on "Fire It Up," make absolutely no mistake: this whole thing thumps. To quote Paul Jones, "I want to put this BG record on at a party!" True indeed. Lalli, who is also in the live band the Motet, is an excellent composer, and all of these songs have like 10 different tracks going at once. And they're definitely SONGS; no beat tape nonsense in here, just some colorful, really fun, really hype tracks to make em say unnhhh. Keep an eye out for BG on tour this summer and the fall.
