Raleigh Moncrief - FREE EP

from Obstructive Vibes:
"We're ecstatic to deliver Raleigh's blazing hot debut EP in digital format. This is a beat-based record that's so tangled up it seems to be perpetually collapsing, but it somehow manages to be expansive; growing more and more ambiguous with each successive track. Glitched out hip-hop? Trans-genred audio collages? We're trying to figure out what context this EP is even attempting to exist in. We gave up. Maybe you should take a stab at it."

hudson mohawke and matthewdavid had a baby and named him Raleigh Moncrief. NO JOKE this shit is super dirty. the title track is seriously about to hit heavy heavy rotation in my itunes player. thanks to Friendship Bracelet for the heads up. Also, check out the free Hexlove EP right beneath it... some nice sunshine music with live drums for glowing and gliding.

Excision from Shambhala 2009

Have you ever been trampled by hippopotamuses wearing sideways New Eras during an earthquake? No? Well then listen to this. Probably the most aggressive thing I've ever heard, despite the fact that there's a Bassnectar VIP in the mix.

It's a sad day

Beep Tape

30 free instrumentals by Koushik, put out on Stones Throw. Available to download for one week only. Most of these tracks sound pretty raw and unfinished, but there are some cool breaks and loops to pick and choose from.

LET7

yikes.

some toonz for ya

here are a couple mixes I put together recently that deviate from the general vibe that this blog maintains

sweet mix #1

all taken from my vinyl collection, ripped to the computer (probably poorly). not blended or anything cause I'm rocking 1 turntable at the moment, but it's a nice eclectic mix.

sweet mix #2

taken from mp3s, also not blended, but the general vibe here is up-tempo new wave/post punk stuff, with a little ambient interlude of one of my personal favs

might be good as commuting music or driving music. probably not good for reading or drawing.

Borgore-Ice Cream Mixtape or McCronnellman, back with a vengeance

Friends, enemies, loyal Astro-Nauts alike, permit me to say how wonderful it is to return to my blogging game. The wilderness has been my home for the last several months, and fucking skeetass AT&T can't get that 3G in North Woods. WEEEAAAK.

Anyway, I'm back now, and man have I brought some wobble. This mix by Borgore, kind of a thugsteppier, fiercer, less ADD version of Raffertie, brims with all types of witty/bizarre vocal samples and some serious explosions. Watch out now, and cop it here.

14KT - Nowalataz

14KT is one of my favorite hip-hop producers currently. Being from Detroit, he's obviously indebted to the late J Dilla, and so he's put out his own version of "donut-style" beats (and unlike a lot of these types of things circling the internet, its actually really good).

In his words:
“Here it is… a project I unofficially had done since 2006. It started when James Yancey a.k.a. J Dilla passed that February. To cope with the death of my favorite producer, who I liked to call my unofficial “musical mentor,” I started making ‘donuts’ …uncontrollably. I never planned to release any of the material out of respect for Dilla & his craft. I’ve shared some of the music with others, in which they would repeatedly ask me to hear it, so I decided to put a little something together and make it official. JUST FOR YA’LL.

This is a collection of beats created about 3 years ago. Some ‘donuts’ style, some just around that era of 14KT beats. “Now & Laters” were always a favorite candy of mine. I used to go to Mindell’s Pharmacy in Ypsilanti back in the day and buy ALL of them. Sadly, I even stole change from my grandma’s (RIP) purse for them. They are addictive, yet fun to eat… something I found mutual when making music at the time. Ironically, I fell back in love with “Nowalataz” around this era (ask my homey Sarah “Merk Merk,” haha). Enjoy.“
