QUIET NIGHTS EP

'Quiet Nights' has been a long, long way coming. Started with a dusty old cassette in my basement in '09 and ended with some phresh new Trans-Atlantic interweb collabroations this year. I honestly couldn't have landed a more adventurous and expert pack of remixers. Everyone took it in an entirely different direction... The result is an album that's simply traveling... Vocoder silk, Future-boogie synth frenzy, Blunted blunts, Cavernous speed dub, Balls-to-the-wall breakcore, Jungle birds... You name it. Pack a bag. I hope it was worth the wait.

Firstly, I love that this EP features "versions," not remixes. There is a huge difference there. A remix should bear at least a definitely audible similarity to the original. With these different versions, those constraints were only as strong as what the individual artist wanted to put on themselves. Mr. Kuhn should be applauded for allowing such artistic license and rounding up such a talented group of musicians in their own right.

I don't know very many artists who have done the same sort of "version" EP but I think it's a terribly original idea and I hope to see this format replicated on future releases. Or even performances.

Yet only a strong "version" EP could be possible with an extremely strong foundation, and "Quiet Nights" is deceivingly anthemic and superbly crafted. The future is bright for Kuhn and Astro Nautico.

That +weed Version is the bomb diggity.

Are these remixes of a single track called "Quiet Nights", or is that just the EP's name, and the source track is untitled?

@Hooked On Stereophonics: Kuhn originally sampled 'Corcovado' in his tune 'Quiet Nights,' released on our first compilation, Atlantics EP. For this EP, the same source material was used by six other artists and Kuhn once again to create six more versions.
