Cheyne Stokes

Akira Kiteshi has much more in him than we all thought. Here is a free new mini-album of tape loops using exclusively jazz vinyl, synths and weird tape phenomena.

BENAMIN x FRESH DAILY = FIRE

Fresh Daily is that dude.

Benamin is THAT DUDE.

TOGETHER, THEMS THOSE DUDES!!!!!!

Seriously though, this is real quality stuff. Excellent production by Benamin, and Fresh kills it with the flow n lyrical goodies. Big stuff from both of em' in 2010, that's for sureeeee.

Grab the EP over here, where there's a nice little back story about the collaboration too:

The Times E.P.

and peep the video for "Apollo 13"

Eliphino

Definitely been sleeeeeeping on this dude. Caught him randomly on myspace to find a short stack of truly breathtaking tracks. Joints on the myspace player are some super smooth dance-floor bangers in line with producers like Floating Points and Martyn. Amazing sounds, really. Check out his page here, download a free beat tape he put out in 2008 HERE, and definitely keep an eye and two ears out for Eliphino this year.

Illum Factum

TIGHT new mix by Illum Sphere for FACT magazine. 15 minutes long, with 14 original productions. Hypnotic drums and synthesizers drip off the ceiling and float back up via anti-gravity before exploding into dimly lit confetti rainbows... which are constantly melting and re-solidifying. Does that make sense? It will if you listen. Also check out his new EP Long Live The Plan here, and the full FACT interview with the man himself here.

Tracklist:
Illum Sphere – Illum Go Kill ‘em
Kidkanevil – Real Wild (Illum Sphere Remix)
Illum Sphere – A Meeting With Medusa
Illum Sphere – Psycho
Illum Sphere – Never Lie Twice
Illum Sphere – FCKUNURCRU

S1 & Caleb GOT THAT HEAT!

S1 (Symbolyc One) really is one of the most underrated producers in hip-hop today. He helped create the sounds behind the Strange Fruit Project's first few albums, a group relatively slept on in their own right. But it's his beats that shine on that record and continue to shine everywhere else they end up.

I came across a couple remixes he had done of some mainstream artists which actually made me dig some songs I wasn't even feeling originally (the soulja boy rmx is FIRE). I was happy to find them, as well as a lot more, on this mixtape entitled "Still Underrated."

CHECK IT HERE

Tracklisting:

1. Intro – S1 (Symbolyc One)
2. Diamonds – Juice and Don Cannon
3. Callin Me – Phonte (of Little Brother)

SUPER DUDE

On the real though, where can I cop an instrumental of this shit???

It's Coming...

SPACE M USIC

RIP TEDDY BEAR

Today the world lost a lot of soul. Teddy was one of the original crooners, cranking out dancefloor heaters and bedroom lullabies throughout the 70s as a part of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (where he and not Harold Melvin was the lead singer) and later on as a solo act in the late 70s and early 80s. In his honor, put on one of his records, dim the lights, and spend the night caressing your special someone. Teddy would have wanted it that way.

ASTRO NAUTICO

TOP 11 ALBUMS/EPs

DEUX MILLE NEUF

.....................................................................................

11. Blue Daisy - Strings Detached EP

This kid is about to explode in 2010. Amazing production on all fronts.

......................................................................................

10. Washed Out - High Times

KILLIN' EM SOFTLY.

......................................................................................

9. Machine Drum - Want to 1 2 ?

Originally part of the heavy glitch/IDM scene, demos and clips surfaced around 2007 that showed that Travis was transitioning into a more upbeat, pop oriented style of production. When this finally dropped it did not disappoint. Full of vibrant, colorful melodic music; he has definitely created a unique sound for himself. Great collaborations.

......................................................................................

8. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

Definitely a band worthy of the hype. Incredibly talented musicians, songwriters, and producers who create beautiful, melancholic music to drift to. Also great live.

......................................................................................

7. Shlohmo - Shlo-Fi EP

For Astro Nautico's historical records, I hereby declare 2009...

YEAR OF THE SHLOHMO.

Kid is doing BIG big tings in da Bay Area, CA.

Wake UP and COP THIS EP. ITS FREE.

Also watch out for Shlohmoshun DELUXE coming JANUARY 12th (10 DAYS), with remixes from Tokimonsta, Low Limit, Devonwho and Fulgeance. It's gonna be lava.

.....................................................................................

6. Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue

One of the more surprising releases of 2009 given his previous output. He has been known for his hazy, tape drenched guitar acoustics, but this album is all over the place, spanning psych, hip-hop, folk, IDM and more. Some may say it's unEVEN, we call it unBELIEVABLE.

......................................................................................

5. Kona Triangle - Sing a New Sapling Into Existence

Beautiful. Glad to finally see a full release from these guys (Keaver & Brause and Lone) as Kona Triangle. Save this one for early summers.

....................................................................................

4. Mt. Kimbie - Sketch on Glass EP

Beautifully detailed music. Every track begins slowly, with a simple, subdued intro that eventually fills the bucket with so much red wine that it spills over onto your brain and STAINS IT. It STAINS YOUR BRAIN. and it's like a gigantic comfy pillow.

....................................................................................

3. Mike Slott - Lucky 9Teen

and if ya don't know then now ya knowwwwww... SUCKA.

......................................................................................

2. Teebs - Untitled CD-R

An UNOFFICIAL? release? at NUMBER TWO???

Yep.

pretty sure this joint broke my ipod in august... the rotation was 2 heavy.

......................................................................................

1. Hudson Mohawke - Butter

One of the most highly anticipated albums of 2009, and for good reason. Ever since hearing his Heeters beat tape from a while back, we've all been blown away by hudson's chops ss sp osc s ops k.
Butter takes all of the glittery cartoon synths, wacked out drum patterns and butchered vocals and ups it a notch further. Complete ADD shit and we love it. The only album that made all of our top 10 lists over here.

STEREOPTICO

I was friended on myspace by these dudes a while back, and never got around to fully listening to their music. Damn was I sleeping!!! These guys roll deep and make really luscious synthesized beats. Especially cool to see a scene like this poppin' off in the Dominican Republic.

They've got all types of free goodies at their website and recently dropped this tasty little sampling in time for the holiday season. Features beats by Cohoba & n6el.

CRACK FRIDAY

syea syea syea syea so YEAH our good friend bro MARTIN been hanging out in some antenna jungle treetop village and asked us (Obeycity and Paul Jones) - aka SiFunk and Garmunkle - to join him on his New school radio show... and we humbly obliged.

here's his take on how it went down:

Short interview with Sifunk and Garmunkle followed by mixes from the boys. Garmunkle takes you through something like a babysitter’s unreality, a collection of voices, howls, warnings, and backwards gestures, all blowing through an expanse of deep psychedelic, funk and other-otherly grooves. Afterwards, you can come up for air with Sifunk’s mix, which feels like what you might hear wandering along a Miami Beach after a Double Duce concert at Studio 183, the half-heard echos of an after-party somewhere on the strip, a DJ throwing down inside a two-room cabana packed with one-hundred-and-ten sweaty, inebriated creatures. Brighter, up-tempo, sensual, boogie music.

if you haven't already, grab Sifunk and Garmunkle's BLOOPERZ here.
