I like a dude who gives presents to others on his birthday. All I usually do is get nihilistic and eat candy.
InfinitiRock is freshly 18 and NY bred. '17Years' is his fresh, free, 40-track (!) birthday beat tape for you and me. Lots of changing moods/textures here, really great match for these changing seasons in the East... straight Atlantics, dawg.
OK...so for y'all who didn't know I had the extreme pleasure of going down to good ol' Austin, Texas for the festival known as South By Southwest (or SXSW for us shorthand blogger types). I was actually going down there to work at the Levi's/Fader Fort and thus was unable to attend any daytime showcases (other than the acts I was able to see at the fort). While that was a slight bummer, I did have most of my nights free and was able to see a good amount of the acts I had gone in planning to check out.
(Hudson Mohawke + Olivier Day Soul @ Warp Showcase)
First of all, I just want to say Austin is a mad-house during this week - the streets are blocked off for a good portion of the downtown district and so it has this sort of free-roaming, party atmosphere of a street festival, only it goes on for 4 days +.
(Flying Lotus @ Warp Showcase)
I'm not going to review all the acts I saw individually but will say that I was able to check out Hudson Mohawke + Olivier Day Soul, Eskmo, and Flying Lotus at the Warp Showcase (mindblowing), Zackey Force Funk & Kutmah at Hit & Run's Party, Theophilus London & Neon Indian at Green Label Sound, Daedelus at the Ninja Tune showcase, Lazersword & Debruit @ an official venue, as well as Memory Tapes, Washed Out, Dam Funk (YES!), Nas, Bone Thugs & Mayer Hawthorne at the Fader Fort. There are probably a couple others I'm forgetting, but those are the ones which stood out.
Oh, and I finagled my way into Mad Decent's after party but lost my camera in the process (wamp wamp) leaving me with only pics from Tuesday night.

Shout out to my F.A.R.M. team homies, we held it di-down, yerrdddddd. Oh can't forget Whataburger too...you helped nourish me on those cold & lonely nights (seriously it was cold a couple of nights).
And here's a video to try & give you just a TASTE of the experience of Flylo's set (the visuals were incredible):
*EDIT* Just got dope footage of Daedelus at the Ninja Tune Showcase via my bud Aaron over @ theXshark. Bass destruction!!!!!!!
I know I'm a little late on this, but just wanted to pay a small tribute to the late, talented Née Jun Seba, known to most people as Nujabes. Apparently he died in a car crash in Tokyo last month...another one taken too soon.
I personally found out about him through his work on the anime Samurai Champloo, but after digging deeper into his tracks (although the ones he did for that are top notch) I found a slew of other noteworthy productions. His beats always had an introspective, nostalgic value that really grabs the listener immediately. I know he had a large influence on me personally when I started out making beats, and I'm sure others can say the same.
Here are some of my personal favorite productions by him:
Keith Yin Yan is a golden god. He e-mailed me a couple weeks ago suggesting we collab on a video project, one thing leads to the next, and then BOOM: the A/N space station, a nasty-Larry, slick-ass metallic corncob, sliding through the cosmos like bread on butter. I think we just got a mascot ladies and gentlemengs.
Did I mention that Keith made this in a single work-day?! Check out more of his videos at shadowedlab.com and his photography at overshadowed.com.
The track, 'Rear Window,' is from our split Atlantics EP, which is free forever in case anyone (shamefully) missed it.
FF to 8:20. Now that's what I call a close encounter.
DAMN I wasn't sure if this was ever gonna come out. Well worth the wait though. Teebs + Jackhigh = cold cold hypnotic heat. Listen to the EP in full below, and COP it when it drops on April 5th.
Found out about this dude through Daytime Television. Killer dubby chill house shit. Grab "Double Trouble" (25 trax) from Afternoons Modeling HERE.
and his new Lackadaisical split-EP with FUR on Waaga records free to download HERE.
Don't Sleep.
also check out his remix of "I Love You So" by Jesse Futerman. I've dug my fair share of downtempo music, but this has to be one of the chillest, most relaxing tracks I've heard in a while. get it HERE.
