MONO/POLY vs. Ras G vs. Nosaj Thing on Mary Anne Hobbes, 3.3.09

This pretty much sums up everything that I like in electronic music right now. 3 very different styles, 3 very unique individuals, 3 sounds that I absolutely can't get enough of. With MONO/POLY, you get that whole organic, post-Dilla hip-hop sound that so you'll find from a lot of these Brainfeeder guys, and of the Brainfeeder crew, I'd say that MONO/POLY is maybe the least adventurous, but just there's something about how he does it--it sounds more intimate, like instead of experimenting with his music, he's chasing emotions.
Then you have Ras G, maybe the most blunted motherfucker in LA right now, with these humid, sweaty beats right out of a rainforest that he, Madlib, Chong, and Redman have been hotboxing for two hours. I mean, this shit is REAL blunted, but its awesome. Low-key head-nodders with a lot of atmosphere and good sampling. Big ups Ras G.

And THEN you have Nosaj Thing, the Glitch Mob's worst nightmare--a kid who can do something brand new, completely creative, mindblowing, mindbending, trailblazing, next level shit, with glitches, empty space, and weird sounds all over the mix. MAH says this is a live set of his, meaning not a DJ set, meaning he's both mixing this set and performing it on keyboards and samplers live and direct. I am actually at a loss for how to talk about this guy's music, and Nosaj, if you're reading this, I apologize for the Glitch Mob comparison.

Did you know MONO/POLY is 21 and Nosaj Thing is 22? I'm 22 and I haven't done a goddamn thing. Humiliating.
